Ethereum cryptocurrency, conceptual illustration. Cryptocurrencies are digital assets that are based on cryptographic tools such as blockchains and digital signatures. As a payment system Ethereum operates independently without the need of a central bank. Ethereum was proposed in 2013 by programmer Vitalik Buterin. Development was crowdfunded in 2014 and Ethereum went live on 30 July 2015 using a peer-to-peer network. Transactions are verified by network nodes through cryptography and recorded in a public distributed ledger called a blockchain. Cryptos are more and more accepted as a means of payment in everyday life. | |
