Composite image of comet C/2013 A1 Siding Spring taken by NASA's NEOWISE mission. It shows the comet as a red object in four different positions relative to the background stars. At the time of the observations, the comet was 1.55 astronomical units from NEOWISE and 1.88 astronomical units from the Sun. The NEOWISE mission uses a space telescope to look for asteroids and comets, including those that could pose a threat to Earth. At upper right is the galaxy Fornax A (NGC1316), the fourth-brightest radio source in the sky. | |
