Dead-leaf mantids, such as this female (Acanthops cf. centralis), generally position themselves beneath twigs or leaves, occasionally swaying back and forth as if in a breeze. These specialized mantids are live bearers and the newborns look just like the adults. Mantids prey upon smaller insects. | |
