Cave crickets (Ceuthophilus sp.) in the Ozarks are important invertebrates in cave systems because they feed on the surface at night and return to live in the dark cave by day. When in the cave, they deposit their waste in massive amounts below their colony on cave ceilings. This waste (frass) is an important nutrient input for some cave food webs. This individual was photographed in Oklahoma's Ozarks, 2018. | |
