Microhylid frogs include some of the worlds smallest amphibians. Most are burrowers or else live deep in rainforest leaf litter. Life histories are unknown for many species and some are seen so infrequently they may be rare. In the Amazon Basin, one microhylid, the Brown Egg Frog (Ctenophryne geayi), is found in small clearings beneath fallen debris. It likely feeds on termites and is strictly nocturnal. Breeding aggregations occur in small streams and isolated pools. This individual observed along the R??o Sucusari, Loreto, Peru, 2016. | |
