Homo neanderthalensis or neanderthal is an extinct species of humans who lived in Eurasia until about 40.000 years ago. It is one of the most famous prehistoric human species in popular culture. This image illustrates a sequential reconstruction of the cranial anatomy of an adult Neanderthal. This kind of sequential reconstruction is the methodology followed by true paleoartists to depict the most accurate portrait of extinct vertebrates. Neanderthals had a reduced chin, sloping forehead, and large nose, and their skull is typically more elongated than ours. | |
