Periorbital (around the eyes) swelling in a 70 year old man caused by angioedema (angioneurotic oedema). This is an allergic reaction characterised by the swelling of soft tissue. Causes may include drugs, insect bites and pollen. This case was caused by the antibiotic trimethoprim use to treat a urinary tract infection in a patient with myeloma. Treatment is with anti-inflammatory drugs and antihistamines. | |
