Chrysocolla is a hydrated copper silicate, a mineral with a unique bluish-green color. It is formed in the vicinity of copper-rich ore bodies but has itself little meaning as a copper ore, nor does it have use in jewellery, due to its low hardness of +/- 3 on the Mohs scale. It usually occurs in amorphous (non-crystalline) form, precipitated as amorphous crustal layers. This sample is from the copper belt mining district in Congo, actual height of sample is 120 mm. | |
