Messier 3, the globular cluster in Canes Venatici, one of the brightest globulars in the northern sky. It was discovered by Charles Messier in 1764, but not resolved into stars until 1784 by William Herschel. The little galaxy above the orange star is 14th magnitude NGC 5263.
