Comet Swift-Tuttle, April 1892. This comet was discovered in July 1862 by the US astronomers Lewis Swift and Horace Parnell Tuttle. This comet passes close to the Earth's orbit, and it is thought that one day this comet will hit the Earth. It is the parent body of the Perseid meteor shower. Also known as 'a 1892 I', this appearance of the comet is here seen in the constellation of Pegasus. It was observed by E. E. Barnard (US astronomer Edward Emerson Barnard) from the Lick Observatory, USA, on 18 April 1892. | |
