Fabric machine at Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (AFFOA). This is part of a single Jersey electronic circular machine (see image C048/5130) designed to produce a garment by knitting and stitching fibres together without using seams. AFFOA was founded in 2016 by materials scientist Yoel Fink to build on his optical fibre research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). AFFOA is a research consortium that is researching and developing functional fibres that can be integrated into clothing, with a wide range of applications to wearable computing devices and smart clothing.
