Star cluster RCW 38, X-ray image. This star cluster is about 5 light years across, and 6000 light years away, in the constellation of Vela. Its stars formed less than a million years ago, with 190 of them emitting X-rays. Also present are high-energy X-rays formed by the interaction of energetic particles such as high-energy electrons with the cluster's magnetic fields. This results in the diffuse cloud of X-ray emissions seen here. This may be due to a supernova, triggering processes that lead to the formation of planets in this cluster.
