Fingertip tendon injury, illustration. Two types if injuries to the tendon attached to the distal phalanx (the bone at the tip of a finger) are shown here. A tendon connects a muscle to a bone. At top, the tendon has snapped or been severed from its attachment at the bone. At bottom, the bone has fractured, with the same effect. The muscles that move the finger joints are in the palm and forearm, connected to the finger bones by long tendons such as the one partially seen here. When these tendons are severed, the fingers can no longer be moved. | |
