Replacing the CMS pixel detector at CERN. The CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) detector is installed at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) at CERN (the European particle physics laboratory) near Geneva, Switzerland. The particle beams collided here create new particles that are detected the CMS. The key component of the CMS is its pixel detector, a highly sensitive device, with around 6000 connections per square centimetre. This upgrade enabled more precise measurement of properties of particles such as the Higgs Boson. Photographed on 7 March 2017. | |
