Mini-accelerator display assembly at CERN. CERN (the European particle physics laboratory) near Geneva, Switzerland, is the site for the world's largest particle accelerators and detectors, such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Beams of ions are accelerated to collide head-on. The resulting energies have allowed study of exotic material like quark-gluon plasma, a form of quark matter. Here, a display model is being assembled at part of CERN's cultural heritage projects. Photographed on 10 January 2019. | |
