London's first public drinking water fountain, set into railings outside St Sepulchre-without-Newgate Church, on the corner of Holborn Viaduct and Giltspur Street, London, UK. This marble fountain (with dog trough) was originally installed on Holborn Hill by the Metropolitan Free Drinking Fountain Association in 1859, but had to be removed when the Holborn Viaduct was built. It was eventually re-sited on this wall, though it no longer supplies drinking water. The inscription at top states it was the gift of the MP Samuel Gurney. Photographed in June 2018. | |
