Flower clusters (catkins) of a goat willow (Salix caprea) tree (also known as pussy willow). This deciduous shrub or tree produces these soft spike-like catkins (3-7 cm long) in spring that resemble a cat's paws. The male catkins are yellow when they release pollen which fertilizes the female catkins to form seeds. Photographed in Dorset, UK, in April. | |
