Fossil crinoid (Macrocrinus mundulus) of the family Batocrinidae, now extinct. Crinoids are popularly known as sea-lilies, a name well illustrated by this sample. They have lived, in different forms, throughout the geological record from Palaeozoic times up to this day. Origin of this specimen is the Lower Mississippian deposits near Crawfordsville, Indiana, USA, dating back 350 million years. Actual length of specimen is 150 mm. | |
