Two starchy plaques are seen (yellow at centre) amongst brain cells. These plaques have been coloured using antibodies that stick specifically to the virus-like prion particle that causes CJD. CJD results in large vacuoles & plaques appearing in the brain,making it spongy and killing off the tissue. Symptoms include dementia and sudden muscle contractions,leading to death.
