Benjamin Thompson (1753-1814). 1891 illustration of the US-British physicist Benjamin Thompson Count of Rumford in Munich in 1798 examining gun drilling. Thompson's most influential work was studying the boring of cannons to show that heat was due to the motion of particles,or friction,in the body of the material. His honours included the Order of St Stanislaus (1786) and Count of the Holy Roman Empire and the Order of the White Eagle (1791). | |
