Renal cancer. Coronal computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen of a 57-year-old patient with cancer of the right kidney. There is a malignant (cancerous) renal cortical tumour (dark grey) in the patient's right kidney (left) which extends into the posterior segment of the kidney. Kidney cancers may spread (metastasise) to other parts of the body via the blood or lymphatic system. Treatment is with removal of the kidney, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or immune therapy. Kidney cancer is most common in men over 50 years of age, although it can affect anyone. Family history of the disease and smoking are the main risk factors. This is a CT scan under intravenous iodine injection. | |
