Fritz Zwicky (1898-1974), Swiss astronomer. Zwicky is best known for his work on supernovae, which he named along with colleague Walter Baade, hypothesising that they were a transition from normal stars to neutron stars. Over a period of 52 years Zwicky discovered a total of 120 supernovae. He also proposed that much of the universe was dark matter. | |
