Meningioma brain tumour. Coloured magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of axial sections through the brain of an 87-year-old female patient with a large (6.5c) meningioma (orange). Meningiomas are slow-growing tumours that form from the meninges, the membranous layers surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Just over 90 percent of meningiomas are benign (non-cancerous), whilst eight percent are either atypical or malignant (cancerous). Here, the tumour has caused problems with walking (gait disorders) and coordination. | |
