The underside of Space Shuttle orbiter Atlantis on display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida, USA, showing the thermal tiles and three Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSMEs). This actual flight model spacecraft flew to Earth orbit on 33 missions between 1985 and 2011 and has been on display here since 2012. The orbiter is tilted at a 43 degree angle to allow visitors to see into the open payload bay. Although it has been prepared for museum presentation, the orbiter still bears some of the scars, scuffs and discoloration resulting from its many launches and re-entries. | |
