A Kamchatka Brown Bear (Ursus arctos beringianus), relaxes on a river bank at Lake Kurilskoye, Kamchatka, Russia. Standing between 2.4-3m tall they are the largest of the brown bears and are thought to be the ancestor of the Kodiak bear. In August and September Lake Kurilskoye has abundant spawning salmon which provide a feast for around 500 bears. | |
