Astronauts at SpaceX Demo-1 launch, March 2019. At left is NASA astronaut Doug Hurley, next to NASA's Chief of the Astronaut Office Pat Forrester (centre), with others, watching the launch of SpaceX Demonstration Mission 1 (SpX-DM1) to the International Space Station (ISS) at 02:39 local time (07:49 UTC) on 2 March 2019. The launch took place on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida, USA. This was the first orbital test of the Dragon 2 spacecraft, intended to take crew and cargo to the ISS. The Crew Dragon 2 spacecraft successfully docked to the ISS on 3 March 2019. It was not crewed, instead carrying a test dummy. Hurley is assigned to the Demo-2 mission. Photographed in firing room four of the KSC's Launch Control Center. | |
