The machines would punch out the numerical data which was then fed through to the Hollerith Machine. Herman Hollerith was born in 1860 of German parentage and developed a mechanical tabulator based on punched cards in order to rapidly tabulate statistics from millions of pieces of data. He was the founder of the company that became IBM and the early machines were used as early as 1890 for the US census. | |
