Reaction to treatment for solar keratoses on the face of a 74-year-old man. Also known as actinic keratosis, solar keratoses are mostly found on areas of skin that are exposed to the sun, including the backs of hands and the face. It is important to remove the lesions as they can develop into skin cancer. They may be removed by scraping, freezing with liquid nitrogen, drugs,or surgery. Here, the keratoses were treated with a cream containing the drug Efudix (containing fluoruracil). This image, taken four weeks after use of this drug, shows the effects on the patient's skin. | |
