Greenwich Meridian laser shining over London at night. The Prime Meridian in Greenwich, London, was established in 1851 as the basis for the navigational system of longitude and latitude used today. Since 16 December 1999, the prime meridian (zero degrees longitude) has been marked by this powerful green laser shining north over the London skyline from the Greenwich Observatory. It is visible for many kilometres under good viewing conditions. Photographed in 2016. | |
