The andratite form of garnet, Ca3Fe2(SiO4)3. The cations are Ca2+ (maroon) and Fe3+ = (yellow). The positive charge of the cations is balanced by the negative charge of the tetrahedral silicate anions, SiO4(4-), shown here with the silicon atoms in the centres of green partially-transparent polyhedra. The oxygen atoms (not shown) are located at the vertices of the silicate tetrahedral.
