This coronal (frontal view) non-contrast 3D-CISS image of the brain shows deformity of the pre-ganglionic segment of the left trigeminal nerve and asymmetric widening of the cerebello-pontine angle cister (CP angle) on viewers right. This is secondary to the presence of a congenital epidermoid tumour which consists of desquamated squamous epithelium with keratin debri. This sequence (3D-CISS) is very important in detecting these subtle lesions because you can see the morphology of this lesion which is very difficult to detect on routine T1 and T2 images. These are benign but can increase in size. They often encase adjacent nerves and blood vessels which can make it difficult to remove. | |
