Martian dust storm, Mars Express image. Upwelling front of dust clouds (right) near the north polar ice cap of Mars in April 2018. Martian dust storms are generally weaker compared to hurricanes on Earth. Mars has a much lower atmospheric pressure and its storms have less than half the typical wind speeds of hurricanes on Earth. However, they are intense and can develop into global, planet-encircling dust storms. Data obtained by the High-Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on Mars Express. The European Space Agency's Mars Express has been orbiting Mars since December 2003. | |
