Super-Earth orbiting Barnard's Star, illustration. At right is Barnard's Star b (GJ 699 b), a planet that orbits Barnard's Star (left), a red dwarf that is 6 light years from Earth in the constellation of Ophiuchus. The planet is at least 3.2 times as massive as Earth. Announced in 2018, it was discovered by an array of telescopes that included ESO's planet-hunting HARPS (High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher) instrument. This planet orbits the fastest moving star in the night sky. Image published in 2018. | |
