Water strider; Aquarius remigis. (formerly in Gerris remigis). These insects are true bugs in suborder Heteroptera. they are also known as pond skaters, water skippers, and jesus bugs. Their anatomy permit them to walk on the surface tension of water. Like all true bugs have their mouthparts are adapted for piercing and sucking. They feed mainly on insects that fall into the water or float up from below. This species is widely distributed throughout North America. Some adults are winged, others are wingless.
