Manganese hydroxide precipitate, 3 of 3. Manganese (II) hydroxide (Mn (OH)2) precipitate formed by adding 1M solution of potassium hydroxide (KOH) drop by drop to 0.25 M solution of manganese sulphate (MnSO4). The reaction is KOH + MnSO4 -> Mn (OH)2 + K2SO4. This is an example of a double replacement reaction. In the presence of air, pale pink Mn (OH)2 is oxidized into brown MnO2, Mn (OH)2 + O2 -> MnO2 + H2O. | |
