Neutralization reaction, 1 of 2. Milk of magnesia is a milky white suspension of magnesium hydroxide (Mg (OH)2) in water. When 1M hydrochloric acid (HCl) is added to milk of magnesia in beaker (Photo 1) and stirred, magnesium hydroxide dissolves (Photo 2). The neutralization reaction is: HCl + Mg (OH)2 -> MgCl2 + H2O. | |
