Neutralization reaction. Milk of magnesia is a milky white suspension of magnesium hydroxide (Mg (OH)2) in water. When 1M hydrochloric acid (HCl) is added to milk of magnesia in beaker (left frame) and stirred, magnesium hydroxide dissolves (right frame). The neutralization reaction is: HCl + Mg (OH)2 -> MgCl2 + H2O. | |
