The area around Lynds Dark Nebula 1235 in the upper left corner of this image lies in a complex of dust called the Dark Shark in the constellation of Cepheus. This area is similar to Wolf's Cave. VdB 150 is the blue reflection nebula at top. VdB 149 is the reflection nebula at bottom. LBN 535 is also involved in this complex. Dark nebula are opaque clouds of dust and gas in space that block the light of stars behind them. But some of the faint dust in the area of LDN 1235 may also be visible because the dust is glowing from photoluminescence. This dust glows from energy from the interstellar radiation field. | |
