This fascinating area of the Milky Way runs from Gemini at lower left to Auriga at upper right. It contains several very large areas of red emission nebulosity, including IC 410 and IC 405 at upper right, and the very faint supernova remnant Semies 147 at right center. At lower left is another supernova remnant, IC 443. At bottom left is the bright nebula NGC 2174, which is visible in binoculars. Several beautiful large open clusters also populate this area, including (from lower left to upper right): M35, M37, M36, and M38. The brightest star in the frame is Elnath, Beta Tauri, at right center. |
