Dark streaks on Martian slopes such as these on a hill inside Horowitz Crater are inferred to be formed by seasonal flow of water on contemporary Mars. These dark features on the slopes are called 'recurring slope lineae' or RSL. A new hypothesis has emerged that proposes that these streaks are likely created by new occurrences of liquid salty water that evaporates as it flows. The source for the briny water is still unclear, but may be due to condensation from the Martian atmosphere, or underground reservoirs. | |
