Bubble chamber event. An electron spirals in the magnetic field of the 10 inch (25cm) bubble chamber at Berkeley Lab. As it loses energy in ionizing the liquid hydrogen in the bubble chamber, the electron becomes less and less resistant to the force of the magnetic field and curls inward on successively tighter curls. A bubble chamber is a vessel filled with a superheated transparent liquid (most often liquid hydrogen) used to detect electrically charged particles moving through it. | |
