This hands-on test was in preparation for NASA's Apollo 11 mission to the Moon, which took place from 16-24 July 1969. This mission was the first landing by humans on the Moon, with Neil Armstrong (left, 1930-2012) and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin (right, born 1930) descending to the surface in the Lunar Module, while Michael Collins (centre, born 1930) remained in orbit in the Command Module. This training took place at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA. Training began after the crew were selected in 1967. Photographed on 10 June 1969. |
