Jackal buzzard (Buteo rufofuscus) perched in a tree. This medium-sized bird of prey is found in mountainous regions in southern Africa. It feeds on small mammals, birds and snakes. Nests are made on ledges or high in trees. B. rufofuscus makes loud yelping calls, similar to those of a jackal, hence its name. Photographed in the Kalahari regions of South Africa and Botswana. | |
