Manometer. Illustration showing a U-tube water manometer attached to a gas supply (right). A manometer is a pressure gauge. The pressure of the gas from the gas tap changes the levels of the water (blue) in the U-tube. The pressure of the gas can be found by measuring the difference in height of the water levels either side of the U-tube. The pressure is proportional to the height difference (h), and is calculated using the equation P=hgd, where P is pressure, g is acceleration due to gravity and d is the density of the liquid.
