Phenethylamine is a naturally-occurring primary monoamine. Substituted analogues of phenethylamine are often psychoactive drugs; used both medically and recreationally. Many; such as adrenaline and amphetamine are central nervous stimulants and neurotransmitters; as is phenethylamine itself. Others are euphorics (dopamine; MDMA); hallucinogens (mescaline); appetite suppressants (phentermine); bronchodilators (pseudoephedrine) and antidepressants (bupropion). Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (black), hydrogen (white) and nitrogen (blue). | |
