Milky Way over the Great Wall of China. Band of the Milky Way rising in the night sky above a tower on the Great Wall of China. The Milky Way is our galaxy seen from the inside, forming a band of stars and nebulae stretching across the sky. The Great Wall of China was built in stages between the 5th and 17th centuries, from materials such as earth, or stone and brick. The longest section is over 6000 kilometres long, and is the longest man-made structure in the world. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. This tower is part of the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall, in Luanping County, Hebei Province. Photographed on 26 February 2017. | |
