Electrogates microfluidics research, illustration. Electrogates (e-gates) are an example of microfluidics technology. They are precision engineered for stop-and-go control of the flow of liquids in capillary-driven microfluidic chips. The microfluidic chip is shown in the upper part of this image. The three insets below show the mathematics and physics of the capillary flow. Microfluidic structures are used as lab-on-a-chip sensors. A typical application is to aid researchers and pathologists working with tissue samples, enabling accurate drug testing and disease diagnostics. Image published in April 2018.
