Beta-galactosidase enzyme, molecular model. An essential enzyme in the human body, beta-galactosidase is commonly used in molecular biology as a marker to monitor the expression of genes. The model is coloured by protein subunit. This model was produced using high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy to create a 2.2-angstrom-resolution electron density map. This work was carried out by Sriram Subramaniam's laboratory at the National Cancer Institute's Center for Cancer Research in the USA. As of October 2015, this was the highest resolution structure determined by single-particle cryo-electron microscopy. Image published in 2015. | |
