BepiColombo spacecraft integration before launch. BepiColombo ministack being moved at the Guiana Space Centre, French Guiana, from where the spacecraft will be launched. BepiColombo is a joint mission of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to explore Mercury. Scheduled for launch in October 2018, it will arrive at Mercury in 2025. it has three components: ESA's Mercury Transfer Module (MTM), ESA's Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO) and JAXA's Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter (MMO). This ministack comprises the MMO (top) and the MPO (bottom). The MPO's radiator side is visible, designed to reflect heat directionally, allowing the spacecraft to fly at low altitude over the hot surface of Mercury. Image published on 7 September 2018. | |
