Taurid meteor over Yamdrok Lake. Time-exposure image of a Taurid meteor fireball (upper left) in the night sky above Yamdrok Lake, one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet, China. It is 4441 metres above sea level. Taurid meteor showers occur annually for about 30 days in early November when the Earth crosses the orbit of debris produced by the Encke comet. The Milky Way from the constellations Cygnus to Cassiopeia is visible at upper left. The Milky Way is our galaxy seen from the inside, forming a band of stars and nebulae stretching across the sky. The star Polaris is at upper centre. Photographed on 10 November 2015. | |
